Mytron The Fifth, Illuminati Ruler And Secret Overlord Of All Humanity, Dead At 112
2,000 MILES BENEATH BAVARIA, GERMANY—Mytron the Fifth, Illuminati ruler and secret mastermind of the entire human race since the year 8449 on the world’s true calendar, died yesterday in his subterranean bedchamber. He was 112. Mytron, who assumed clandestine dominion of the planet upon the sudden withering of Hemmonphanes the Ancient, was perhaps best known for engineering more than 200 wars, economic catastrophes, and famines, and for having psychokinetic control over the inner thoughts of every man, woman, and child on earth. “He’ll be missed,” said a longtime friend and Roman Catholic archbishop who declined to be identified. Mytron is survived by 251 offspring, primarily from his human wives.
The Final Workout Pledge — 344 Pounds
I’ve been following Tyler’s blog for several months – definitely an inspiration for my own weight-loss efforts. This dude is a beast – he has trimmed down from 344 pounds to about 215 pounds, and is shooting to hit below 200. Every once in a while he does a workout pledge, where he asks people to comment on his blog, friend him on Facebook, etc., and then he adds time to his treadmill workout.
Apparently linking to his blog makes Tyler work out one more minute. So here’s your minute, Tyler.
Go for it.
How does the Apple quality control testing work, anyway?
One of my favorite apps on my iPod Touch is NewsRack, an RSS reader that syncs with my Google Reader feeds, and allows me to post items to Facebook, Twitter, etc. It’s a great app – I wish someone would invent something similar for the BlackBerry.
But they recently updated the app, and now every time I sign in, I see this message instructing me to enter my password. I’ve now done this 5-6 times. So now I’ll stop, and I’ll find another RSS reader for my iPod Touch. When barriers to entry and switching costs are low, customers can bail on a whim. Which I am about to do.
Why I started this blog
Chris Dixon and Charlie O’Donnell both advocate the value of the “blog as resume” and recommend starting one to everyone who asked for their career advice. I’ll join that chorus as well. We have hired all of our junior investment professionals largely on the basis of their blogs, not their resumes or linkedin profiles. You can learn so much more about a person by reading their blog.
So to all the people out there wondering about the role of social media in their career plans, I second David Karp’s recommendation. Build and own your online brand and don’t let others define it for you.
Fred, as usual, says it better than I ever could.
Everyone’s model of work is a job
The less a project or task or opportunity at work feels like the sort of thing you would do if this is just a job, the more you should do it.
